Dear SRS Members,
In my past several blogs, I have been covering the recent process of revising our strategic plan meeting. I would like to take this opportunity to highlight an important step we are taking towards advancing one of the strategic priorities that continues to be of top importance in the revised plan: enhancing the vibrancy and breadth of scientific offerings to our membership. This key step is that we have embarked on holding our own meeting, independent of the AASM, which is designed to meet the needs of our members that our polls indicated were not being met by the annual SLEEP meeting.
Our Scientific Offerings Committee has been planning this meeting for the past two years. This meeting is a limited size, single-track scientific meeting entitled Advances in Sleep and Circadian Science, which will take place February 1-4, 2019 in Clearwater Beach, Florida. This topic was selected as the theme of the meeting because of an appreciation of the importance and timeliness of focusing on bridging basic and translational sleep and circadian science. I applaud the Scientific Offerings Committee for putting together a stellar agenda for this meeting that includes a lecture by Nobel Laureate, Michael Rosbash, and highlights the exciting and highly promising work occurring at the interface of these two fields.
I strongly urge you to support this meeting. Your attendance will be critical to its success and to helping us improve the scientific offerings of our society. If this meeting is successful, we will be able to hold future SRS-only meetings focused on other key topics in our field. Attending the meeting will also provide you with an outstanding and unique scientific experience. I look forward to seeing you in Florida at the meeting!
