We are saddened and outraged at the tragic murder of eight innocent individuals in Atlanta, Georgia last week, and we remain disturbed by the continuing acts of racialized hatred and violence in our country. These events are sobering reminders of the significant challenges our country faces to achieve racial equity and justice, and minimize marginalization, so that we may enjoy and share the benefits of a diverse society. It is up to each of us, individually and collectively, to address such injustices to the best of our abilities.
The Sleep Research Society is committed to the promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion. We pledge that our Society will always be a community in which all members are welcomed, respected, and valued. Our goal is to provide every researcher—regardless of age, race, nationality, sexual identity, background, and all other forms of diversity—opportunities and encouragement to be successful sleep and circadian scientists.
What can you do? Please reach out to your colleagues, to your students and trainees, to your staff members, and let them know they are truly valued and have your support.
Sincerely,
Sleep Research Society Board of Directors
