Barbara Ellen Jones Galaty passed away on July 22, 2022, in the company of her family, following an extended illness. Barbara was a world expert on the scientific study of sleep. She earned BA, MA, and PhD degrees in psychology from the University of Delaware, served as a postdoctoral fellow at the Collège de France and Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago, and then spent 42 years as a professor in the Montreal Neurological Institute at McGill University in Montreal. She retired as an Emerita Professor in 2019, after having received numerous awards recognizing her achievements, including election to the Royal Society of Canada (2010), the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2013), and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Montreal Neurological Institute (2015).
