Dear SRS Members,
The future of investigator-initiated biomedical research—including sleep and circadian science—is at risk. The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has proposed sweeping changes to the Uniform Guidance that could create significant uncertainty for federally funded research and undermine the investigator-driven research enterprise that fuels scientific discovery.
The SRS submitted a formal comment on the OMB proposed rule, urging OMB to withdraw the proposal and instead work with Congress, research institutions, and the scientific community to pursue transparent, targeted reforms that strengthen accountability while preserving the nation’s research enterprise. View SRS’s submitted comment here.
Take Action
The comment period closes July 13. We encourage every SRS member to take one or both of the actions below to help ensure the research community’s voice is heard.
Submit a Comment to OMB
Individual comments from researchers matter. We encourage you to submit a comment to OMB before the July 13 deadline. You may use the SRS comment letter as a resource, but comments are most effective when they reflect your own experience. Even a brief statement describing how these proposed changes could affect your research, trainees, institution, or the broader scientific community can make an impact.
Our Washington advisory team notes that boilerplate responses are discouraged, so we encourage you to personalize your comments whenever possible.
Share Your Story – Contact Your Elected Representatives
Policymakers are most influenced by hearing directly from their constituents. We encourage you to contact your federal representatives and explain how these proposed changes could affect your research, institution, trainees, patients, or scientific field. Personal examples are especially powerful and help illustrate the real-world consequences of policy decisions.
The SRS advocacy platform helps you connect with your representatives in just a couple of clicks. Click below to get started.
It only takes a few minutes to make your voice heard.
Act by July 13 to protect the future of sleep and circadian research. Submit a comment to OMB, contact your elected representatives, or do both today. Your personal message can help demonstrate the real-world impact of these proposed changes and urge policymakers to preserve investigator-initiated biomedical research. Please also share this alert with colleagues who may be affected and encourage them to take action before the deadline.
Warm regards,
Chiara Cirelli
