“pHGNS: A New Frontier in Sleep Surgery”
Tuesday, November 10, 2026 at 11:30am-12:30pm ET
Overview:
This session will review the neurophysiologic mechanisms, pivotal clinical evidence, patient selection considerations, and programming innovations underpinning proximal hypoglossal nerve stimulation (pHGNS) as a novel therapeutic approach for obstructive sleep apnea.
Learning Objectives:
After attending this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the neurophysiologic mechanisms and upper airway muscle recruitment patterns underlying proximal hypoglossal nerve stimulation (pHGNS).
- Review clinical evidence supporting pHGNS, including outcomes from the OSPREY randomized clinical trial and emerging data on PolySync programming.
- Evaluate patient selection considerations for pHGNS
- Discuss high-level workflows around device activation, programming and optimizing therapeutic response to pHGNS

Robyn van Poelgeest, MD, PhD
Senior Director, OSA Medical Affairs at LivaNova
Ofer Jacobowitz, MD, PhD, FAASM
Co-Director of Sleep at ENT and Allergy Associates
Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology, Donald & Barbara Zucker School of Medicine
