We are greatly saddened to announce the passing of Dr. Anthony Kales. Dr. Kales was the founding chair of the Department of Psychiatry and the Sleep Research and Treatment Center at Penn State University College of Medicine and served into the mid-1990s. He was a leader in the sleep field – establishing the 1968 sleep scoring system together with Dr. Rechtschaffen and holding leadership positions in sleep societies, including those that gave birth to AASM and SRS. Several endowments and funds were established in his name that live on to this day to support sleep research and community psychiatry at Penn State. READ MORE
