The Pennsylvania State University’s Department of Biobehavioral Health invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar to help carry out research with Dr. Orfeu Buxton in the Sleep, Health, and Society Collaboratory. This position is involved in sleep health research including the causes of sleep deficiency in the workplace, home and society, health consequences of sleep deficiency, especially cardiometabolic and cognitive outcomes, and digital biomarkers in field and intervention studies.
This is an opportunity for an emerging Scholar to engage with a productive team of investigators and project leaders. Primary responsibilities depend on the candidate fit with laboratory priorities, and whether laboratory-based studies, field studies, or already-collected data will be a focus. Responsibilities will include grant writing, data collection and/or management, data analyses, preparation of manuscripts and conference presentations, and participation in interdisciplinary research groups. The Postdoctoral Scholar will have opportunities to publish, and access to exceptional resources to facilitate their independent research.
Qualified individuals will have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent training in biobehavioral health disciplines such as neuroscience, psychology, physiology, epidemiology, and/or statistics, or information, computer, or data sciences, and will have demonstrated research excellence. Knowledge of statistics and familiarity with statistical programming (SAS, R, etc.), and deep learning (e.g. TensorFlow, etc.) is preferred. The appointment will be for one year, with a high probability of renewal depending on productivity.
